People love to hate Sydney Sweeney. The Euphoria actress has drawn repeated layers of ire, most notably for the whole “good jeans” row about her American Eagle ad and that fact that her initials are “SS”, though I’m not entirely convinced this drama wasn’t manufactured as part of the ad campaign.
But the greatest controversy of Sweeney’s career is now upon her, and it’s a burning imbroglio from which she may never recover. That’s because in a recent interview, Sweeney states she’s never had a cup of coffee.
As reported by People, the admission was made on Instagram, during an installation of “Close Friends Only: Speed Round,” the platforms interview series where famous people trying to promote something talk to each other. In said interview, bafflingly conducted by a magazine on a social media platform, Sweeney and fellow The Housemaid co-star Amanda Seyfried went on to lob softballs at one another and show what good friends they are. One such simple question came from Sweeney. “How do you take your coffee or you tea?” she asked Seyfried, whose response was “a very large black coffee.” (A solid answer that is simple, relatable, open-ended but still expressing something of an opinion.)
When it came time for Sweeney to answer, she stated, “I have never had coffee.”
This is an absolute scandal. Being from Spokane, Sweeney has an excellent list of cafes to choose from. Living in Los Angeles gives her access to quite literally one of the world’s great cafe scenes. I’m not one ot get all conspiratorial about it, but Sweeney’s shocking admission draws to mind a similar non-coffee-drinking policy of a certain sitting president.
“I have never had coffee” is the most offensive thing Sydney Sweeney has ever said and the editorial opinion of this publication is to be both shocked and appalled. Coffee is the world’s most popular beverage! There are a lot of things I can forgive someone for, but this is not one of them. Boycott Sydney Sweeney! Or at least get her a vanilla latte.
